DVF’s Soho

Diane von Furstenberg has opened her second store in New York with her Creative Director Yvan Mispelaere. The store, which is located at 135 Wooster Street in Soho, gives off a downtown edgy vibe. The 1,650 square-foot space is filled with stand out prints, vibrant colours and wrap dress after wrap dress. All DVF classics. It also contains a whole room dedicated to accessories only and plasma screens placed everywhere showing backstage looks from the DVF fashion show and twitter feeds from DVF herself. This Season’s Statement

Every season there is one big statement dragged through all the shows of fashion week, but this time it seemed to suprise quite a lot of the fashion folk. The eyebrow. Brush, darken, define, just make it noticeable. Models like Arizona Muse and magazines like Vogue just can’t get enough. Even Prada’s fashion show sunglasses had big cartoon eyebrows swirling on the frame. Look to designers like Dior for inspiration, or if you really want to be noticed, take a look a Balenciaga’s fall 2011 show, and look out for the blue uni-brows. Yes you heard that correctly!

Marchesa and Playboy?

Luxurious fashion house Marchesa has teamed up with Playboy to create a bunny outfit for the new Playboy club in London. Heavily embroidered with lace and beading, the corseted outfit seemed to have worked well, mixing with the aesthetic of Marchesa and Playboy and adding them together.”We kind of wanted keep the Marchesa aesthetic but stay true to Playboy; so you’ve got the lace and the corsetry… it was a lot of fun.”
Marchesa, who are known for their raving red carpet moments, decided to go for a darker approach to the bunny outift, giving it a richer feel. The outfit will be auctioned off in October for charity.

Alessandra Rich

New designer alert! Alessandra Rich may have only recently launched her label, but she has already proved to be a high fashion goddess for women. Rich uses rare but distinctive shapes with her cothes “establishing new codes for ready-to-wear fashion”. Exaggerating the waist is a key style used throughout her collections. You can find her pieces on that have appeared in magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar. Things are looking up for this newly bred designer.

Pyjamas Anyone?

For this season (Spring/Summer 2011) designers have finally given into your need for comfort. Forget the saying ‘beauty is pain’. Throughout the runways from New York to Paris, a certain type of dress sense has been noticed. Silk, smooth, soft, yes thats right Pyjama style is in.

Does this mean you can get straight out of bed and head out of the house? No, but the comfort will still be there in this seasons must have outfit. So whats next underwear?

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2011 Campaign

Louis Vuitton has released their Fall winter 2011 ad campaign. After a show of feathers and fetishism with a 40’s feel, it was interesting to see how they interpreted the collection through an image. They did not disappoint. Marc Jacobs (designer for Louis Vuitton) wanted to use up-and-coming models in this campaign, which is different for the brand as they usually use a celebrity or supermodel. 16 year old Nyasha Matonhodze has been picked as one of the lucky girls to be the face of the brand. Quite an achievement, don’t you think?

Rumours, Rumours, Rumours

Rumours have raised yet again in the fashion industry. Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci has supposedly been telling his close friends that he is the new designer at Dior, replacing John Galliano. During Paris Fashion Week, suspicions were that Riccardo was leaving Givenchy and joining Dior, and Haider Ackermann would become his successor at Givenchy. So are these rumors true?  Although Dior may not release a press statement until September, at this moment in time it is quite obvious that Riccardo Tisci is the Chosen one.

Oscar De La Renta Resort 2012

A new era has emerged for Oscar De La Renta. After having quite a number of Shows in his church venue on Park Avenue, he has found a new spot to complement his collections.

Jules Mordovets

Picasso was the inspiration taken for this Resort collection. With sharp prints, bright coloured sequins and paper flamenco hats, it was evident De la Renta was looking for a new approach to fashion without ruining his classical touch.
