Fashion’s New Shape

For a while now designers have been focusing on two new shapes: wide, oversized coats and full peplum skirts. Of course these shapes are more flattering than they sound. The wide, oversized coats is working magic for your legs as it sits well away from the body in a structured manner. The full peplum skirts are pulling concentration to the waist making it appear much smaller as the shape widens from the smallest part of the torso. Lets take a look at some of the designers joining in the fun:

Tom Ford Fall/Winter 2012

Tom Ford suprised me this month. For months and months we all wait in anticipation for his womenswear collection to be released. This time, 5 weeks after his Fall/Winter 2012 show, it was FINALLY released! But only in a sneak peek video of course and thats good enough for me. With his usual strong, sexy silhouettes, Ford seemed to have gone back in time to take inspiration from his former muse and former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris Carine Roitfeld. Yet again it was the perfect combination.

Take a look at the vibrant coloured furs and Carine Roitfeld-esque collection here:

The Rooney Mara Look

With her jet black hair, perfectly cut fringe and classic but interesting style, the ‘Rooney Mara look’ has been gracing the runways from New York to Paris for Fall 2012. With designers such as Versace, Marni and even Calvin Klein (where she sat front row) on board, it’s time we all add a little bit of Ms. Mara into our wardrobe.

Paris Fashion Week – Top 5 Shows

At last we come to Paris….

The atmosphere in Paris this week was exciting as designers continued to present enthralling shows to the fashion folk. Alber Elbaz’s 10 year anniversary show at Lanvin had the crowd cheering as bright and uplifting colours made their way down the runway and as Alber sang a solo to take his bow. Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci is at the top of his game. The confident designer showed a gothic, romantic show. With a collection mostly containing black, it was the slight shift of colour at the end that made the show. The Yves Saint Laurent show was a special one. Since taking over the label in 2004 Stefano Pilati announced he was leaving. His final collection payed tribute to the great Saint Laurent with a Pilati twist! Alexander McQueen continued to be one of the star shows of Fashion Week. Sarah Burton’s feminine petal-like silhouettes took my breath away. Finally Louis Vuitton closed the four weeks of fashion shows. Marc Jacobs’ (Creative Director) 1930’s inspired show included Willy Wonka shaped glasses, servants carrying the models luggage and a steam train. Now whats more glamorous than that?

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2012 – Top 5 Shows

Milan Fashion Week certainly is always the fashion week of glamour and this season it did not disappoint. As one of Milan’s strongest  Fashion Weeks ever, a strict and tough but romantic mood followed through the collections. From Gucci’s gothic romanticism to Roberto Cavalli’s daringly dark peplums, maybe the Rooney Mara rage has even influenced the designers! The wearable and covetable clothes got better as the week went on. It’s just what women want to wear. Whether it was the tears and standing ovation at Raf Simons’ last show for Jil Sander or the constant rumours about the Dior job (it has officially been a year), this Milan Fashion Week has definately been an eventful one

Here is my pick of the top 5 shows:

Bottega Veneta

Gucci

Prada

Roberto Cavalli

Jil Sander
