Tropical Prints

You might not be jet setting off to some exotic tropical island this summer, but you certainly will be wearing one! For Resort 2012, designers such as Stella McCartney and Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy ventured for the colorful surroundings of a Hawaiian jungle. Go wild and wear print with print; Hawaiian shirts with Hawaiian trousers, or even better, mix it up with another print like McCartney’s stripes. So do not be afraid to dig out that hawaiian shirt that was soooo embarrissing for so many years! It’s time we add a little more fun into our lives, and there’s no better way to do it with then that tropical fever.

Roksanda Ilincic Resort 2012

Glamour, glamour, glamour, that is the only word needed to describe Roksanda Ilincic’s Resort collection. Like last season’s lemon yellow, Ilincic decided on a bright base colour to carry throughout the collection. This season it is lime green.  A hard colour to wear, but not when toned down like on the lining of a skirt or used as a belt cinched at the waist. For those daring clients, they can go all the way in a floor lenght ball gown made entirely of lime green silk satin. How fabulous is that?

The Serbian born designer made sure a 70’s and 80’s look was noticed within the collection by adding Turbans and wide, round shades taking to the glamour feel of the collection. If there is one thing Roksanda was trying to prove with this collection, it is that she can design wearable clothes with a twist, and she certainly did.

Zac is Back

After a few seasons with a hit of the recession, Zac Posen has finally climbed back to the top with his Resort 2012 collection. When this collection enters stores, he is sure to be back on his feet  so we can see what Mr. Posen does best.

Coco Rocha

If there is one thing common in each and every one of Posen’s collections, it would be drama. With over sized gowns, over layered sleeves and over the top in everything else, Zac sure is a show stopper.

Coco Rocha

For Resort the color palette did not go crazy. Very soft colors followed throughout the collection. The gowns were more outragous then ever. Gowns you could barely walk in, but isn’t that what a Fabulous gown does anyway? Remember, Beauty is pain!

DVF Resort 2012

Dior Resort 2012

Dior released they’re first show since John Galliano’s departure in March earlier this year. The drama has completely gone from the collection. It is a very different approach to Dior. It is like they want to forget and delete the Galliano era, but this simply cannot be done.

Dior Resort 2012

The collection had 60’s colors and shapes included in it, mixed with classic Dior. The reviews have been mixed, as expected. Some saying it is a new era they are looking forward to, and others saying it just isn’t Dior. Only time will tell. Galliano’s successor better be chosen wisely.

Yves Saint Laurent Resort 2012

Opening with a striking red leather trench coat, Stefano Pilati (Creative Director of YSL) ventured for a sailor themed show. After all it is Resort.  Anchors were featured on most of the looks, splattered all over shorts or attached as a pin to a pair of wide leg trousers, It seemed to be the core of the collection.

Ropes were also used to a great amount in this collection. Whether printed on a dress or used as a statement necklace, it tipped off the shows theme with a great effect. While using questionable fabrics in summer, like leather, I can say that the show successfully steered it’s way to shore!

Rachel Zoe Resort 2012

After Rachel Zoe debuted her fashion line for Fall 2011, she has proven to the industry that not only can she be a top stylist, but she can also be a top designer. The clothes, which will be coming into Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks this summer, ranges from $250 to $700.

Rachel Zoe Resort 2012

For Resort, Zoe produced a 70’s themed collection with vibrant colours, big ‘sunnies’ and high slit dresses. It seems she has reached out and given us more styles and shapes to choose from.

You could see Zoe wearing each and every one of these looks while styling her top clients which include Cameron Diaz, Demi Moore and Anne Hathaway. This collection is definitely a successful one which makes it much more exciting to see what she will do next.

Erdem Resort 2012

For Resort, Erdem featured a collection of his signature prints and shapes, forcing a feeling of the cool classic look he does so well. His inspiration came from actress Romy Schneider’s appearance in Luchino Visconti films. This made model Guinevere van Seenus a perfect match.

Guinevere van Seenus

The collection may have more casual wear then usual, but the tweed jackets and cinched waists gave a complete 40’s and 50’s look throughout the collection. This may be the work of a young designer, but the collection portrays a more confident feel then ever. Erdem proves to be what women want.

Oscar De La Renta Resort 2012

A new era has emerged for Oscar De La Renta. After having quite a number of Shows in his church venue on Park Avenue, he has found a new spot to complement his collections.

Jules Mordovets

Picasso was the inspiration taken for this Resort collection. With sharp prints, bright coloured sequins and paper flamenco hats, it was evident De la Renta was looking for a new approach to fashion without ruining his classical touch.

Chanel Resort 2012

Monday (May 9th) marked the Chanel Resort (pre-spring) 2012 fashion show in Antibes on the French Riviera. Starting with Abbey Lee Kershaw in pastel yellow, the collection reminded me of what Chanel is all about……..classic.

Abbey Lee Kershaw

Karl Lagerfeld reinvented the classic side of Chanel making it for a cool modern girl, giving a new twist to the brand. The first hint came when an illustration of Coco Chanel herself was on the invitation

The Invitation

For this show all the old Chanel models like Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant came back to strut down a rather long runway, fitting in with the classic idea for the show. Not only did this collection dip into the history of Chanel models, it also dipped into the future. When it came to the end of the show the big question was who will close? Saskia De Brauw was put to the job. Not only has she Modeled for Chanel, but she was also on the front Cover of Carine Roitfeld’s last Vogue Paris issue. Remember her name!
