Milan Fashion Week Fall 2012 – Top 5 Shows

Milan Fashion Week certainly is always the fashion week of glamour and this season it did not disappoint. As one of Milan’s strongest  Fashion Weeks ever, a strict and tough but romantic mood followed through the collections. From Gucci’s gothic romanticism to Roberto Cavalli’s daringly dark peplums, maybe the Rooney Mara rage has even influenced the designers! The wearable and covetable clothes got better as the week went on. It’s just what women want to wear. Whether it was the tears and standing ovation at Raf Simons’ last show for Jil Sander or the constant rumours about the Dior job (it has officially been a year), this Milan Fashion Week has definately been an eventful one

Here is my pick of the top 5 shows:

Bottega Veneta

Gucci

Prada

Roberto Cavalli

Jil Sander

It’s time for the Trend Report. Here is the best of the trends you’ll be wearing for Spring/Summer 2012. This season Designers seemed to be inspired by what is happening around them, from sports wear (The London Olympics) to 1920’s glamour (the re-make of The Great Gatsby film) and everything in between. Originality and individuality also proved to be on designer’s minds from tribal wear to a 1950’s housewife, it’s time to make up your own mind.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2012 – Top 5 Shows

Prada – This season Miuccia Prada showed a variety of what I like to call ‘trailer trash chic’ looks. The esteemed designer excited the crowd with hints of leather, satin and pleating. Of course we must not forget the flames rising from the bottom of dresses and firing out the back of shoes. Can she do anything wrong?

Prada

Jil Sander – Very simple, very different, very white. The Jil Sander collection has impressed me yet again. From the time the first model walked out to the last, I thought of one thing. 1940’s nurses with a touch of elegance. The straight, shear white dresses were paired with nurse shaped hats and a net veil covering their face. I like to think that every designer has a ‘moment’, and this is Jil Sander’s.

Jil Sander

Dolce and Gabbana – As I watched the models walk down the runway, I became more and more hungry. Fruit and vegetables seemed to be quite a big theme. Chili’s, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, the list goes on. While sticking to their womanly shapes, Dolce and Gabbana showed a collection of fabulous Fifties females. Each look better than the next. Not surprising for a design duo who seem to know it all.

Dolce and Gabbana

Versace – This is a big year for Versace. Not only did they show an astounding collection, they have landed one of the biggest collaborations in history…..Versace for H&M. The almost fully white collection was true Versace minus the print. Sexy silhouettes and sky scraper stilettos where present on the runway. Well done Donatella, well done indeed.

Versace

Gucci – Frida Giannini (Creative Director) showed an art deco inspired collection leaning towards the 1920’s. There was a rock chick attitude to the models with a glamorous touch. Quite a strong combination. The embroidered, embellished and beaded collection has already been a huge hit amongst the editors. My favorite part? Most definitely the fringe. Nothing better thean some 1920’s fringe!

The Art Of Colour

It’s time for colour to hit the streets again as Spring/Summer 2011’s biggest trend. From pink and yellow to blue and green, this trend is bound to get you into the summer feeling.

Vogue Italia Colour Shoot Feb 2011

Prada dipped into the trend by adding colour to boxy shapes and stripes creating a multicolour affect while Gucci went for a cleaner colour-blocking look inspired by the 1970’s. At Jil Sander, Raf Simon’s take on the trend was through prints of roses overlapping each other. There is plenty of choice for this trend that anyone can splurge into so do not be afraid.

Colour trend interpreted through stripes

For Men, look at Prada (boxy shapes again), Balenciaga for a monochrome look with pops of yellow, Tommy Hilfiger for a suit in any colour of the rainbow and Jil Sander again grabbing you deep into a kalediscope of vibrant colours.

Jil Sander SS/11 Menswear

If you absolutely hate colour and wish never to be seen in anything light and bright then try Bottega Venetta. Here Tomas Maier decided to be daring and disagree with this seasons biggest trend starting his show with….black. If you feel adventurous enough to continue to spread this trend, then I wish you a wonderful, cool and colourful season.
